Mark is a freelance graphic artist (or "designer" if you're stuffy about that sort of thing), typographer, and social agitator from Sudbury Ontario, Canada. His personal work focuses on two separate avenues that are equally dear to his heart – graphic work focused on political themes and typeface design. Commercially, Mark has expertise in identity and print design. You say you need web design? Well, Mark shares an office with plenty of new media masters. He'd love to talk about your design needs, or the needs of your client.
Mark has bounced back and forth from academics and the private sector. After graduating from Cambrian College at the top of his Graphic Design class in 2005, Mark spent two years in advertising. The early years of his career netted him an Ontario Premier's Award nomination and a Design at Work Award. Burnt out on telecom ads, Mark picked up an Honours B.A. in Communication Studies from Laurentian University between 2007-09. Next, Mark taught part-time at Cambrian College on and off between 2009-11 where he built the Graphic Design program's Typographic Design course. He's also heavily involved in advocacy for the graphic design industry, serving as the Founding President of the Sudbury Design Society and Vice President of RGD Ontario.

There is no purer expression of the relationship between form and function than typeface design. Mark fell in love with type as an art form during his years in advertising, as he learned to truly understand its power. Looking for a new challenge in life, Mark began to study type as a craft in 2009 and is embarking on the design of his first original typeface, "Foundation" – inspired by the work of Hungarian artist and Bauhaus professor László Moholy-Nagy.
Watch here for updates. In the meantime, test your type anatomy knowledge with this quiz Mark used to give to his students!![]()
